La Creciente, Colombia: Compressor Station
Background
La Creciente is among the largest Colombian natural gas discoveries in recent years, producing an average 60 MMscf/d (70,800 m3/hr). The gas is sold to the domestic market at an average U.S. $4.82/MMbtu. The customer needed a reliable gas compression station to meet distribution requirements. After considering multiple vendors, the customer awarded the project to Valerus on the basis of our demonstrated ability to deliver complete turnkey projects on schedule and on budget.
Challenge
The equipment design had to accommodate variable operating conditions at the facility and allow for easy expansion to include additional compressors at a later date.
Advantage
Valerus installed three compressors — two operating units and one standby unit capable of immediate startup. This ability to react quickly to changing conditions resulted in superior customer service and satisfaction. Furthermore, the flexible site design made it possible to rapidly install additional equipment to control gas dewpoint, improve hydrocarbon production and meet gas quality specifications.
