Employee Volunteer of the Quarter: Mark Hill

Mark Hill has been a member of the Valerus team for almost three years as a field technician in the Gulf Coast division. For Mark, volunteering has always been a way of life. He served as a volunteer fire fighter and first responder for the EMS Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department, where he currently holds the position of deputy chief. In April 2008, he will receive his 30-year pin.

Throughout his 30-year tenure with the department, he has spent countless hours at fire and accident scenes. He has further participated in more upbeat volunteer efforts, such as the “Fill the Boot” program for Jerry’s kids and Fire Safety programs at several schools in the Sealy area. Mark’s passion for helping others is evident in all aspects of his life, which often overlap. As a result, he made the Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Station available to Valerus, where we currently hold our safety meetings.

In addition to his volunteer work at the fire department, Mark is also an active member of his community. He has mentored area sports teams, served as a church elder and currently sits on the church youth board. For the past six years, Mark has coached little league, boasting four All Star teams. He has been involved with youth football as well for the last four years. According to Mark, the highlight of his coaching career was the championship in Katy last year. Mark is clearly a busy man and he states, "Finding time to give to those organizations is not always easy, but definitely rewarding."

Mark has been married to his wife, Robbyn, for 15 years. They have three children: Jennifer, 28; Tiffany, 28; and Seth, 12. His favorite activities include hunting, watching Seth play baseball and football, and relaxing when he has time.
